Gordon Ramsay shares the one menu item he always avoids

by · ChronicleLive

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has shared his personal dining do's and don'ts, including the dishes he avoids when eating out. In a candid chat with Town and Country, Ramsay revealed that he gives the 'soup of the day' a miss, suggesting it could be a way for restaurants to repurpose leftovers or unsold specials from the previous day.

He advised: "Ask what yesterday's soup du jour was before today's special. It may be the case that it's the soup du month."

Ramsay also recommends tapping into the server's knowledge to uncover the best dishes a restaurant has to offer. He explained that servers are usually familiar with the menu's finer points and can direct diners to the latest creations or popular choices.

From his own experiences, Ramsay shared: "It depends on the restaurant, but servers tend to taste most of the dishes on the menu and can give you insight into what the chef has added and what the locals have," thus obtaining some "great recommendations".

The acclaimed chef also highlighted certain "red flags" to watch out for in restaurants. He cautioned against places that over-promote their dishes with claims such as "world's best," "famous," or "best in the country.", reports the Mirror.

Additionally, Ramsay pointed out that an extensive list of specials might indicate that they're not as fresh or unique as they're made out to be.

Gordon stated: "Specials are there to disappear throughout the evening. When they list 10 specials, that's not special," during a conversation with The Mail, as reported by The Express.
