Vera star's next move confirmed with huge Netflix role after ITV series ends

Vera actor Joe McGann, who starred as Julian Carr in the ITV detective series, has been announced as one of the stars in a huge new Netflix show.

McGann, who fans might also recognise from shows like Casualty, Hollyoaks and Netflix’s recent series Kaos, will take on the part of Wiley Corval in a fresh drama from the mind of famous author Harlan Coben.

This new series, titled Run Away, is yet another collaboration between Netflix and Coben, who has produced major hits for the streaming giant, including Fool Me Once, The Stranger and Missing You.

Run Away is adapted from Coben’s novel of the same name, with the writer serving as executive producer through his company, Final Twist Productions.

The show boasts a star-studded cast, with The Missing actor James Nesbitt, Gavin and Stacey icon Ruth Jones, Good Will Hunting star Minnie Driver, The Critic’s Alfred Enoch and Conclave’s Lucian Msamati all set to feature.

Other cast members include Sweetpea’s Jon Pointing, Wolf Hall star Ellie de Lange, Hollyoaks actress Ellie Henry, Friday Night Dinner’s Tracy-Ann Oberman, Ted Lasso’s Annette Badland and Doctor Who’s Ingrid Oliver.

The synopsis reads: “Simon [James Nesbitt] had the perfect life: loving wife and kids, great job, beautiful home. But then his eldest daughter Paige [Ellie de Lange] ran away and everything fell apart.

“So now when he finds her, vulnerable and strung out on drugs in a city park, he finally has the chance to bring his little girl home.

“But it turns out she’s not alone, and an argument escalates into shocking violence. In the aftermath, Simon loses his daughter all over again, and his search to find her will take him into a dangerous underworld, revealing deep secrets that could tear his family apart forever.”

In keeping with previous Harlan Coben adaptations, Run Away will relocate the story from the US to the UK, with film taking place around Manchester and the North West of England this month.

The series, which is the thirteenth Coben title to be released by Netflix, will comprise of eight hour-long episodes.

His other works that are currently available to stream on Netflix include: Missing You, Fool Me Once, Gone For Good, The Stranger, Stay Close, The Innocent, Hold Tight, The Woods, Safe.

Meanwhile, the latest Coben titles to be announced by Netflix are: Run Away, Caught, Just One Look, I Will Find You.

Run Away will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
