Never ever let it be said that the Geordie girls aren't an extremely well dressed bunch. Because yes, while there were plenty of dapper gents in attendance at Newcastle Racecourse for Plate Day 2026, it was the ladies who commanded the most attention for their outfits.

Not that Newcastle ever needs an excuse to dress up, but Plate Day is one of those occasions where the ante is seriously upped and people turn on the style no end. It took just a few minutes of doors opening up at the Racecourse around 11.30am for the chic and striking fashion ensembles. From amazing headwear - check out our 24 best hats at Plate Day 2026 - to an array of polka dots, as they became the big trend for this year, the lasses donned all manner of head-turning outfits and ChronicleLive was there to be both impressed and to make sure we got some stunning pictures of them.

As the clocked ticked by to the first race of the afternoon, ahead of the Plate at 3.15pm, more and more fabulous fashion headed into both the Grandstand and Premier enclosures, meaning we were spoilt for choice when it came to snapping shots of superb style. There were some very well dressed duos among the crowd - the 16 best dressed couples at Plate Day 2026 - and some smart as a dart men as well - check out our best dressed lads at Plate Day gallery; but, it was the ladies who truly ruled the roost once again.

We obviously didn't have time to photograph everyone who was at the races on Saturday for the culmination of the Northumberland Plate Festival, but we did get plenty of photos - so here are our picks of the best dressed ladies at Plate Day this year.
