by Surej Singh · NMEActor Eric Dane has revealed that he has been diagnosed with ALS disease.
The Grey’s Anatomy actor broke the news in an exclusive chat with PEOPLE magazine, but kept his statement brief. He told the outlet: “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
He continued, sharing that he is scheduled to return to work next week for the third season of HBO‘s Euphoria: “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Eric Dane is best known for his roles as Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy, Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, Sean Jackson in Valentine’s Day and James McGrath in Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
ALS, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rare and terminal neurodegenerative disorder that results in the progressive loss of both upper and lower motor functions and muscles. It is currently incurable and progressively worsens over time.
As for Dane’s return to Euphoria, it’ll mark his third turn as Cal Jacobs, father to Jacob Elordi’s Nate Jacobs. Season three has yet to receive a release date but is likely due to premiere in 2026.
