‘Hitman’ removes Conor McGregor over civil rape case

"We take this matter very seriously"

Hitman, a popular assassination sandbox game, “will begin removing all content featuring [Conor] McGregor” following a civil rape case in which a jury determined the MMA fighter must pay £206,000 to a woman who claims he raped her.

McGregor’s voice and likeness is present in Hitman as a character called The Disruptor. He was one of the elusive targets, which are characters who appear in a time-sensitive mission in the game and are harder to find and kill due to the limited information the game gives players about their wereabouts.

As reported by PC Gamer, Previous celebrities to feature as elusive targets include Sean Bean and Gary Busey.

Hitman is a game in which players take on the role of an assassin, Agent 47, and traverse levels looking for creative ways to take out their targets.

Following the verdict of McGregor’s civil trial, the Hitman X (formerly Twitter) account released a statement. “In light of the recent court ruling regarding Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has made the decision to cease its collaboration with the athlete, effective immediately. We take this matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications. Consequently, we will begin removing all content featuring Mr. McGregor from our storefronts starting today.”

The trailer for the Disruptor DLC which featured McGregor has been taken down, and the pack itself has also been removed from several storefronts: Steam, the Epic Games Store, the PlayStation Store, though it is yet to become completely inaccessible to players.

As reported by CBS, in a now-deleted X post, McGregor wrote, “The judge’s instruction and the modest award given was for assault, not for aggravated or exemplary damages. I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the DPP reviewed. I am with my family now, focused on my future. Thank you to all my support worldwide.”

In other news, a Windows update has caused several popular games to become unplayable.
