- Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie has a terrifying first trailer
- The upcoming movie is being called a "reinvention" of the popular horror game franchise
- It will be released in theaters on September 18, 2026
Zach Cregger is refusing to rest on his laurels after the success of Weapons, as we now have a terrifying trailer for his take on the Resident Evil franchise.
The new movie arrives in theaters from September 18, and the plot teases: "In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos."
It seems that Cregger's Resident Evil won't be a direct remake of any of the games, a strategy that has worked well for other adaptations such as Prime Video's Fallout.

What else do we know about Zach Cregger's Resident Evil?
As noted above, it doesn't seem like Resident Evil will adapt any of the core characters seen in the video game series. Whether or not some familiar faces will show up remains a mystery, but the protagonist for Cregger's take is medical courier Bryan, who is a brand new addition to the franchise.
So far, so good, especially Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was a flop, and the cancellation of the 2022 Netflix television series angered fans.
Austin Abrams stars as Bryan, and there's an excellent cast joining him including Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Johnno Wilson.
