Astronomer has released a statement after its CEO Andy Byron found himself at the centre of conversations about a viral moment at a Coldplay concert.

The statement comes after a video of two people went viral due their awkward reaction to being beamed onto a kiss cam at the concert, which took place in Boston, Massachusetts, went viral online.

In the video, the people featured are first seen holding one another while watching the gig, before realising they are being featured on the jumbo screen and ducking out of sight.

“Oh, what...either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” Coldplay frontman Chris Martin quipped in the clip.

The internet claimed the people in the clip were Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot.

Social media users also claimed that a third Astronomer employee - Alyssa Stoddard - was featured in the video, with the company clarifying that she was not.

The company said via X: “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability.”

“The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.”

“Alyssa Stoddard was not at the event and no other employees were in the video. Andy Byron has not put out any statement, reports saying otherwise are all incorrect.”

A false statement of apology claiming to be the CEO has been doing the rounds online.

The company Astronomer confirmed to TMZ that Mr Byron has yet to address the controversy and added that the false statement is “not a real statement”.
