Coronation Street star Shelley King has quit after 11 years - and fans are not happy.

The actress, best known for playing Yasmeen Metcalfe, has reportedly already filmed her final scenes and left the soap in December.

Yasmeen's exit storyline is set to air sometime in March.

An insider close to Shelley said that the TV star decided to leave so she could "explore other projects".

"Shelley spoke to producers early last year and advised that after 10 years on the show and being involved in many major storylines during the past decade she had decided the time has come for her to explore other opportunities," they told The Sun.

Shelley joined the cobbles back in 2014 as Yasmeen moved to Weatherfield with husband Sharif Nazir. However, their long-standing marriage came to an end when Sharif's affair with his wife's friend Sonia came to light.

Yasmeen moved on with Geoff Metcalfe, with the loved up pair tying the knot in Las Vegas. Sadly, their relationship quickly soured when Geoff became emotionally and physically abusive towards his wife.

News of Shelley's exit is the latest in a growing list of departures from Coronation Street. Since soap icon Helen Worth bowed out as Gail Platt over Christmas, Sue Cleaver, Colson Smith and Charlotte Jordan have also announced they are leaving the show.

Fans of the ITV soap have been reacting to the news online - and many aren't too happy.

One fan posted on X: "So sad to hear Shelley King who plays Yasmeen Nazir is leaving Coronation Street after 10 years. She is such a beautiful and talented actress. Another one gone from the show. She was fantastic during the Geoff coercive control storyline."

"So sad to hear that Shelley King has quit #Corrie after 11 years," complained a second.

A third person wrote: "Shelley is a hugely talented actress who showed her worth during the Geoff storyline over 5 years ago."

Another fan asked: "What is going on at Corrie , may I ask??"

While a fifth fumed: "Yasmeen has been one of my fave characters for years now, absolutely gutted to hear she's leaving the street."
