Nearly 20 years on from her split with Brian McFadden, Kerry Katona has disclosed that she reached out to his new bride, Danielle Parkinson, on their big day earlier this month. Kerry, who shares daughters Molly and Lilly-Sue with the former Westlife star, wrote in her weekly column for New! Magazine that she sent a text to Danielle on the morning of her wedding – this came just days after reports suggested the former couple would 'never be mates'.
"My ex, Brian McFadden, got married earlier this month and I just want to wish him and his wife Danielle a lifetime of happiness," Kerry wrote in her column.
In light of rumours claiming she had 'burned all bridges' with Brian, she commented: "I find it sad though that as he gets married, everyone writes stories about me."
"His wedding has nothing to do with me at all," Kerry added. "I texted Danielle to wish them a happy day – it looked like a beautiful celebration and I hope they had a ball."
While Kerry's two eldest daughters were present at the wedding, she didn't divulge any details about their reaction to their dad's third wedding.
Alongside Molly and Lilly, Kerry is also mum to Heidi and Max, whose father is cab driver Mark Croft, and daughter DJ, whom she had with her late third husband George Kay.
Kerry's gesture of goodwill towards Brian and Danielle follows what has been a rocky history between the former couple, with Kerry having previously branded Brian a 's**t dad' to their girls.
"He was a s**t dad. I'm the one who provides for them," she claimed on a podcast in 2023. Such public remarks have reportedly strained their co-parenting relationship, according to an insider last week.
An informant told The Sun: "Kerry has burnt her bridges with Brian, due to years of speaking out of turn. She's got a heart of gold but a big mouth and that has always been her downfall."
The source continued: "Kerry has a bad habit of not thinking before she speaks and it's landed her in hot water with Brian on many occasions. She'll say something publicly that is either outrageous or something she should have kept private between them and it gets her in trouble."
However, just days before these reports, Kerry expressed her desire to be friends with him. "I wish Brian and I could have stayed friends. Molly went to watch him at a festival last week and I would have loved to have gone with her. It would be great to have a better relationship," she penned in her column last week.
Brian seldom discusses Kerry and made a concerted effort not to mention her in last year's BBC documentary, Boybands Forever. In one awkward exchange, the interviewer begins: "Marrying Kerry, you're sort of..." before Brian swiftly interrupts: "I don't want to talk about her, no. Definitely no."
