In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, Andrew said that after discussions with King Charles and other royals it has been decided that "the continued accusations about me distract from the work of his majesty and the royal family".

"I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.

"With his majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."

Though he will continue to maintain his dukedom, he will reportedly not use it. The dukedom can only be removed by an act of parliament.

His former wife, Sarah Ferguson will also drop her title of Duchess.

He will also give up his knighthood as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) and his Garter role as a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.

Andrew will remain at the Royal Lodge as he reportedly has a "cast iron" tenancy that runs until 2078, but he will not attend family celebrations for Christmas this year at Sandringham, the Mirror reports.

The publication says that the move comes after Andrew became further involved in the case of the late Virginia Giuffre recently.

It was reported by The Sun that Andrew had made contact with Jeffrey Epstein after he claimed to have cut off contact with him.
