ITV Britain's Got Talent's divisive first act leaves viewers with same complaint
by Samantha King · DevonLiveAs the new series of Britain's Got Talent kicked off tonight (February 22), viewers were quick to voice a common grievance shortly after the episode began.
The familiar faces of Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, and Simon Cowell graced the judging panel once again, joined by newcomer KSI, the social media sensation and boxer.
The judges were promptly taken aback by the first act, RuMac, an accordionist with an extraordinary vocal talent who delivered a unique rendition of Yes Sir, I Can Boogie by Baccara. Tension was palpable as he took out his accordion, eliciting a groan from Simon Cowell who said: "Oh no, even worse, an accordion. I hate them."
Alesha Dixon echoed the sentiment, saying, "I hate them as well," as the performer prepared on stage.
Despite the initial scepticism, RuMac managed to captivate both the audience and the judges with his distinctive performance, earning himself a spot in the next round. However, the reaction from those watching at home was mixed.
Social media saw a flurry of comments about the series' opening number. One viewer remarked: "If I was heavily intoxicated at 3am this would be great, but I'm not," while another complained: "Which producer went... yeah let's open the show with this!?"
Not everyone was critical of RuMac's act; some fans revealed they had seen him perform live before and he actually has a considerable online presence.
Describing himself as a "weird guy" with "weird music" RuMac boasts around 12,000 followers on Facebook, 3,400 on Instagram, and a more modest 284 subscribers on YouTube, reports the Express.
One delighted viewer, who had experienced RuMac live on multiple occasions, shared their enthusiasm: "Seen RuMac live before, several times. He's honestly so fun and never a dull moment. So happy to see him on BGT," while another viewer foresaw great success for the performer: "Absolutely brilliant! A winner right here now!"
Britain's Got Talent airs every Saturday night on ITV and ITVX
