Gavin & Stacey star issues three-word verdict on Dave Coaches spin-off rumours
by Danny Gutmann · DevonLiveFollowing the emotional conclusion of Gavin and Stacey last month, Melanie Walters, who portrayed the character Gwen, has addressed speculation about a potential spin-off show featuring her character.
During a recent episode of the Off The Telly podcast, host Natalie Cassidy asked Melanie about the possibility of a show centred around her character and another cast member: "If someone said to you we're going to make Gwen and Dave's 'In the house', would you do it?"
Melanie left fans in suspense with her non-committal response: "I don't know, I don't know."
Throughout the series, Melanie's character was often seen caring for others, but in the series finale, she finally prioritised herself and her love life, becoming romantically involved with Dave Coaches, played by Steffan Rhodri.
While Melanie remained tight-lipped about the prospect of starring in a spin-off with her on-screen partner, she revealed that another cast member would have been eager for a Gavin and Stacey revival, despite the series having ended last month.
Joanne, co-host of the Off the Telly podcast alongside EastEnders star Natalie, shared: "Anytime anybody asks Larry (Lamb, who plays Gavin's dad Mick Shipman) though, he always goes 'yes, of course!'".
The sitcom 'Gavin and Stacey' first graced our television screens in May 2007, and it wasn't long before it garnered positive ratings and a dedicated following. Its success was so immediate that the show made a comeback a year later, followed by another series and then a final season.
The beloved BBC series concluded last month with an emotional Christmas special, marking the end of an era for fans and creators alike. James Corden and Ruth Jones, who not only wrote the show but also starred in it, decided it was time to wrap up the storylines of their cherished characters, reports Wales Online.
James Corden shared his experiences of the last day on set during an interview with Graham Norton. He revealed the poignant atmosphere as filming drew to a close: "Everyone was there at the end with lots of crying. Joanna who plays Stacey pretty much cried every day. There were lots of goodbyes. It was very emotional."
