ITV Britain's Got Talent fans fume over 'disgusting' act as they 'switch off' show
by Samantha King, Ramla Jeylani · DevonLiveBritain's Got Talent viewers were shocked to witness the extreme and vivid performance of professional sword swallower Auzzy Blood.
Audiences flooded to X, formerly Twitter, with their reactions, with many labelling the act "disturbing" and questioning its appropriateness for television.
Auzzy Blood, who holds three Guinness World Records, is renowned for his boundary-pushing performances. The seasoned entertainer has appeared on six Got Talent shows across the globe, including an earlier stint on America's Got Talent, reports the Mirror.
Notorious for his perilous antics, he is a master of extreme body manipulation, sword swallowing, and acts that test the viewer's resolve, often causing them to look away in shock.
In his latest BGT outing, Auzzy escalated his routine with a set of risky and macabre tricks, prompting judges and live audience members to squirm in their seats. Although the judging panel seemed astounded, some at-home spectators were not thrilled, criticising the act as "gross" and debating whether such graphic entertainment belongs on prime-time TV.
Social media was buzzing post-performance, with one commenter sharing: "Auzzy Blood probably the most disturbing thing I've seen! What makes someone think I'm going to try and shove a metal hook up my nose."
Another viewer exclaimed: "Ohh my god auzzy that was flipping mad that was hard to watch but wow that was brilliant at the same time." A third contributed: "I'm actually terrified but amazed at auzzy blood rn."
And a fourth shared their mixed feelings, saying: "Well, I loved the hook guy, Auzzy Blood! Terrifying, gruesome and my throat and nose hurt just watching him but he's unique!"
A fifth viewer expressed disapproval, however, penning: "AUZZY BLOOD on BGT was disgusting, not entertainment, pre watershed and a terrible example to children watching a supposed family show." And a sixth revealed their reaction: "Can't watch Auzzy Blood! what a weirdo! I've changed channel."
Meanwhile, a seventh was shocked: "How horrific is that act? OMG so not suitable for kids to watch. One question though - How on earth would you even know you can do that? #BritainsGotTalent."
Auzzy, known for his thrilling acts, had previously performed on the 2022 edition of America's Got Talent as well as Spain’s talent show in 2023. Ant and Dec pleaded with viewers not to replicate the act as his audition aired.
Simon Cowell acknowledged the contentious nature of Auzzy Blood's performance. He remarked: "It's spooky horror where you don't want to watch it, but you do want to watch it. That's obviously why we're going to show it. We probably will get some complaints. Hopefully."
He humorously added: "I love it when they say 'don't try this at home' like we've all got screws and things just waiting to do that."
Britain's Got Talent airs Saturdays at 7pm on ITV1
