Gavin and Stacey fans fume as they 'switch off' over 'evil' twist in show's final episode

Gavin and Stacey returned to BBC One and fans learned there was a wedding on the cards, but it was not revealed who was getting married. As the gang in Barry prepared to head to Essex, there was plenty to stress about.
Smithy (James Corden) was preparing himself for an epic stag party, but it transpired it was not for his marriage to Nessa (Ruth Jones). Fans started to riot when they discovered Smithy was in fact in a relationship with Sonia (Laura Aikman).
Nessa was then seen offering tuktuk rides along the coast and it appeared she did not seem too bothered by Smithy's rejection. Viewers hoped Nessa would object at the wedding and they took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their shock.
@chlxhxpkins said: "That was f*****g evil to do #GavinAndStacey". @k4tzlvr fumed: "I'm so f****** mad #GavinAndStacey".
@lewisa95 added: "If Nessa doesn’t turn up and end up marrying Smithy instead we riot #GavinAndStacey". @TheDutchxes said: "Na I’m turning it off already #GavinAndStacey."
Elsewhere in the episode, viewers were in hysterics over Nessa after she was seen with her vape and cigarette, as they expected nothing less.
When she and Smithy were first seen together, Nessa told Smithy she could not make the wedding, suggesting she still has feelings for him.
"There will be a place for you, you know, if your plans change," he said. To which she replied: "I ain't got no plans, Smithy. We both knows that."
Nessa then told Stacey (Joanna Page) about the proposal, revealing she had been interrupted by Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Smithy had never given her an answer.
When Smithy finally tried to raise the proposal with Nessa, she told him she regretted the whole thing and was over it.
However, things turned out alright in the end as during the wedding, Gavin plucked up the courage to tell Smithy he was making a mistake.
Smithy finally realised he wanted to be with Nessa and chased after her as she was about to leave Barry for good. After proposing to her, the show's final moments were of Nessa and Smithy's highly-anticipated wedding.
The finale will be followed by a documentary called Gavin & Stacey: A Fond Farewell on January 1, which tells the story of the beloved sitcom's 17 years.
The documentary includes unprecedented access to creators James Corden and Ruth Jones as well as the cast and crew as they film the final episodes together.
Celebrity fans will also have their say on the show’s influence on British society and why they believe Gavin & Stacey is the best show on TV.
Gavin and Stacey: The Finale is available to watch on BBC iPlayer
