Gavin and Stacey star teases return of character in potential spin-off as beloved show ends

Gavin and Stacey, the beloved sitcom, is approaching its much-anticipated 'finale' episode tonight, 17 years since it first graced our screens. Amidst the bittersweet emotions of the show's fans, Joanna Page who plays Stacey Shipman, has sparked a glimmer of excitement with hints at a possible continuation of the Gavin and Stacey universe.

Teasing potential future projects, Joanna Page mentioned the idea of a spin-off series centering around Neil 'the baby', who's now all grown up. However, she insists that any such project should be in the hands of the original creators, James Corden and Ruth Jones.

Speaking to The Sun, Joanna stated: "A spin off series would be fun, I think the curiosity would be very high. But only if it was to be written by Ruth and James."

Page isn't the lone voice hoping for more; even the creators themselves havent ruled out a return to their cherished characters, Smithy and Nessa. During an appearance on the Table Manners podcast hosted by Jessie and Lennie Ware, James Corden reflected: "We don't know if we have another idea in us but I can honestly say that if we didn't attempt to try and even explore the idea of writing together then I'd be so disappointed."

With the new episode set to air on Christmas Day, anticipation is running high across the nation. Fans are eager to learn the outcome of the last episodes cliffhanger Will Smithy say 'yes' to Nessa?

This intrigue stems from the previous Christmas Day episode in 2019, which left viewers hanging as the credits rolled after Nessas unexpected marriage proposal.

The final episode of the popular show has sparked intense speculation, with theories ranging from joyous weddings to devastating fatalities. In a recent appearance on Heart Radio, Ruth and James tantalized listeners with hints about the upcoming conclusion.

Ruth teased: "The thing is, I think it would spoil it for you if we told you what's actually going to happen. I think you're just going to have to go with the flow and ride those emotions."

Meanwhile, another listener inquired about the long-awaited revelation of the infamous fishing trip between Uncle Bryn, played by Rob Brydon, and Jason West, portrayed by Robert Wilfort. Ruth playfully responded: "All we can say is it is not illegal in this country."
