While the film had promised to deliver an action-packed entertainer, a scene from the film was flagged as hurtful. Now, the makers have acknowledged their mistake and extended their heartfelt apology to the audience.
Jaat makers issue an apology for the controversial scene
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Sunny Deol's Jaat on April 18, 2025. The complaint mentioned the film lead, Sunny, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, and others for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. In response to the FIR the film's maker have issued an apology and removed the scene from the film. The statement shared by the makers stated:
"To whomsoever it may concern, there has been a backlash for a specific scene in the film. The scene has been removed from the film with immediate effect."
The statement shared by the film, Jaat's makers further stated that it was not their intention to hurt any religious sentiments. They expressed there deep regret over it and revealed that they have decided to delete the scene from the film. They also apologised to everyone whose beliefs were hurt by the film's controversial scene. The statement was quoted as saying:
"Our intention was not to hurt any religious sentiments. We deeply regret it and have taken immediate action to delete the scene from the film. We sincerely apologize to everyone whose beliefs have been hurt."

The controversy sparked after members of Christian community saw an alleged disrespect in one of the scenes. The community claimed that the scenes in Jaat were disrespectful towards Jesus Christ and their religious practices. The complaint was filed by Viklav Goldy, who claimed that the dialogue in the film may fan the flames for those who oppose Christianity to target churches.
The FIR was filed at the Sadar Police Station. They registered the complaint under Section 299 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). For the unversed, the section rules under 'deliberate and malicious acts' intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs. The FIR was also filed against the film's director, Gopichand Malineni and producer, Neveen Melineni in addition to the cast of the film.

Director, Gopichand Malineni spoke to India Today about the controversy surrounding his film, Jaat. He stated that on social media everyone has their own phones and ideas. Similarly, when it came to a film, people had several different opinions. He added that he doesn't think much about it, as one should follow what they want. He was quoted as saying:
"On social media, everyone has their own phone and their own ideas. For example, I love Lord Balaji, but even when it comes to God, people have different opinions about whom they worship. Similarly, when people watch films, they hold a wide range of opinions – there are many different perspectives out there. Today, everyone has access to their own social media platforms, and they're all sharing their thoughts. I don't think much about that. You should follow what you feel, what you like, and where your focus is – just go with that flow."
