Nicki Minaj Sues Nigerian Influencer Over Comments About Her Age
by Doris Ijeoma Israel · Naija NewsAmerican rapper Nicki Minaj has taken legal action against Nigerian social media influencer Dr Penking over claims of cyberbullying and copyright violation.
Naija News reports that the issue began after the influencer posted an old video of the rapper on the social media platform 𝕏 on Saturday.
In the post, he attached a caption saying that the music star was already old and should step away from the music scene.
“Nicki Minaj should understand that she has gotten old and retire”, he wrote.
The post quickly drew attention online and reached the rapper, who reacted to the message on the same platform.
She questioned whether the influencer had the right to share a video she recorded years ago, especially when it was used in a way she considered insulting.
Following the exchange, the rapper announced that the Nigerian influencer had been included in a legal case she is pursuing.
According to her response, the use of the video without approval and the manner in which it was used formed part of the reason for the lawsuit.
“Do you have permission to use this video that I filmed years ago to harras me on this or any platform? You’ve just been added to the suit,” she wrote.
In a follow up post, he wrote: “Tell Nicki Minaj that My self and my team are ready and eagerly anticipating her papers.
“Freedom of speech and expression is supreme in all constitutions in the world and I have the right to express my opinion at all times.
“Is she old? Yes she is 43. There is nothing harassing about this. It is a publicly accessible information on Wikipedia.
“Should she retire? I think she should. That’s my personal opinion and I stand by it. You can agree or disagree.
“I will not be bullied or intimidated by Nicki Minaj or any other “celebrity.”
