Nicolas Cage Calls the MCU a ‘Well-Funded and Glorified WWE’
by Alejandra Gularte · VULTUREDo not bite the hand that feeds you, or maybe do if you have radioactive spider venom. Nicolas Cage has some fighting words for prestigious actors who want in on the Marvel Cinematic Universe action. “It started out, in my view, terrific. Some of the early stories were marvelous. The way that they wove all the threads together and told the different character stories and backstories,” he began at a panel at Fan Expo Dallas. But his praise didn’t come without some criticism — offered “with love” — for his fellow actors. The Spider-Noir actor said, “When I see these 50-plus and otherwise intelligent and remarkably gifted thespians putting on these ridiculous outfits and getting ready for the fight — let’s face it, it’s all cutting to the fight — it’s hard for me not to be reminded that the MCU is becoming a well-funded and glorified WWE.”
Cage previously starred in the first two Ghost Rider movies, a franchise now being revived by Ryan Gosling, and as Spider-Noir in both the animated Beyond the Spider-Verse films and the live-action series Prime Video just canceled. The next big MCU movie, Avengers: Doomsday, comes out this December. Hopefully no one asks Cage about the DC Universe — John Cena might have to hit him with an Attitude Adjustment.
