Don’t Ask Millie Bobby Brown What her Baby’s Name Is
by Bethy Squires · VULTUREMind your Millie Bobby business. British Vogue spoke to Millie Bobby Brown shortly after news broke that she and husband Jake Bongiovi had adopted a baby girl. When Vogue asked for deets about her new baby’s personality, Brown laid down some firm boundaries. “I’m not going to,” she said. “For me, it’s really important to protect her and her story until she’s old enough to potentially one day share it herself.”
Brown is hardly the first celebrity to shield their kids from the paps. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard may overshare on a professional basis, but they started a campaign in 2014 to keep their kids out of photogs’ sites. Many famous parents have followed suit to protect the faces of their unfamous offspring. But keeping even anecdotal personality stuff out of the public eye is a step up. It makes sense, given the fact that Brown grew up with paps chasing her into elevators and Bongiovi knows exactly what it’s like to be the kid of a star. But the couple aren’t ruling out child stardom; it will just have to be on the kid’s terms. “It’s not my place to purposefully put her in the spotlight unwillingly. If she chooses to share her personality one day with the world, like I did when I was young, that’s something we’d support,” Brown said. Brown and Bongiovi aren’t even going to give up the kid’s name without her consent. She says the name drop will only happen when — or if — “she’s ready to decide for herself.”
