Bad Bunny and Chuwi’s Latin Grammys Performance Goes Under the Sea
by Alejandra Gularte · VULTUREBunnies can breathe underwater, at least bad ones. For their performance at the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas on Thursday night, Bad Bunny and Chuwi came together to sing “WELTiTA” off of his award-winning album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos. Benito was very cozy for his set, changing out of his suit and hat to a hoodie and some shorts. He was still covering his hair with the hoodie pulled up, but we all know he has a little mouse under there controlling all of his dance moves. We’ve seen this film before. As Bad Bunny and Chuwi performed, the stage traveled under the sea, with images of beaches and palm trees, presumably of Puerto Rico, Benito’s beloved home.
The Super Bowl halftime performer won four awards during the evening, including his first album of the year at the Latin Grammys. In his final speech, he dedicated his win to the young people and children of Latin America, especially those in Puerto Rico. While he didn’t explicitly mention criticism over performing at the Super Bowl next year, he did remind everyone that creating music is the way that he will continue to express himself. “There are so many ways to defend where you’re from. We chose music,” Benito concluded in his speech, translated from Spanish. Given how many awards Benito won tonight, picking music was the best choice.
