Paul King Unboxes a Labubu Movie

by · VULTURE

Move over, Paddington, a new fluffy critter has Paul King’s attention. Just kidding, little guy, get back over here! Please don’t be mad. There’s enough room for all the creatures in Hollywood. King, who directed the first two Paddington movies, has signed on to direct Sony’s untitled Labubu movie, reports THR. Yes, he’s the brave soul who’ll be adapting the most popular keychain this year into a major motion picture, and he’s the best guy for the job. King made a sequel about a lovable Peruvian bear into a thinkpiece about human rights and compassion. If anyone can do it, it’s him. Maybe the Labumovie can be about the scarcity mindset and consumerism.

King is producing the film alongside Department M and Wenxin She, and of course, Pop Mart, which sells the pointy-toothed demons, originally created by Hong Kong illustrator Kasing Lung. There’s no writer attached at the moment, so shoot your shot if you have a good idea for some labulore.
