Róisín Cryan funeral hears tributes to 'wonderful' person who loved to travel with GAA star fiancé Conor Loftus
by Ciara O'Loughlin · Irish MirrorThe funeral mass of Róisín Cryan heard she was a generous person who loved to travel the world with her fiancé, Mayo senior footballer Conor Loftus. The 28-year-old’s body was recovered from the River Moy in Ballina, Mayo, on January 11.
Her funeral mass took place on Wednesday at St Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon followed by a burial in Drumlion Cemetery. Speaking to the hundreds of mourners that gathered in the church, parish priest Fr Frank Garvey said: “I am deeply mindful that for many of Róisín's young friends, this is probably your first experience of the death of someone from your own age group, and of course, it is unreal and unnatural.
“We are mindful of the loss that you, Róisín’s family, and the Loftus family are now experiencing. We are deeply saddened by the loss of someone so precious to all of you. We pray to the Lord that you will comfort us in our sadness, console us in our grief, and give us the strength to accept the significant loss.”

A photo of Ted, Conor’s family dog, and his lead were brought to the altar as Róisín adored animals and spent many hours walking the pup around the lake in Crossmolina.
The funeral mass heard that “family meant everything to Róisín” and she “showed up every day as a wonderful daughter, sister, partner, cousin and niece". A coffee cup and a photo of Róisín on Kilcummin beach on Mayo were also presented in the mass.
These gifts represented her time spent on Kilcummin beach, where Conor also proposed to her. Finally, a watch and wallet were brought to the altar.
