Danny Jones issues grovelling apology to wife after BRITs kiss with Irish beauty Maura Higgins
by Tom BryantHead of Showbiz, Daniel BirdAssistant Celebrity and Entertainment Editor · Irish MirrorDanny Jones from McFly has come clean about his boozy snog with Irish beauty, Maura Higgins, sharing a soul-baring statement to his fans.
The pop star expressed regret in the post on Instagram: "Hello everyone, sorry it's taken me a while to post this but I've taken some time out to be with those closest to me. I want to deeply apologise to my wife and family for putting them in this situation. I love them so much and we'll continue to deal with this privately."
Pouring his heart out, Danny added: "I love you guys, thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. See you all soon, Danny."
The McFly star was caught on camera getting cosy with the reality TV beauty at the BRITs Awards bash on Saturday March 1. Scandal followed when footage of their cheeky kiss went viral.
An insider shared how gutted Danny is over what unfolded: "Danny has been mortified about what has happened and the awful situation he has put everyone in. He cares so deeply about his family and hopes his words will draw a line under what has been a deeply upsetting time, for everyone. Georgia and his son are absolutely everything to him. Throughout all this, he has been so thankful for the support of his fans. He just wants to move on, and heal in private," reports the Mirror.
A source has praised Danny for taking responsibility, saying: "Fair play to Danny to owning this and addressing things head-on."
Maura and Danny were spotted at the Universal Music afterparty at 180 The Strand, where they were seen getting cosy.
Danny was caught on camera giving Maura a quick peck before going in for a full-on kiss on the lips, much to the surprise of those around them. An insider commented that they "seemed to be having a great time," and noted: "They looked like they had a brief drunken kiss."
The duo reportedly continued their night at the posh Nobu Hotel in Central London on March 1, where sources say they indulged in wine until the early hours, leaving together at 6am.
Despite the buzz about his marriage, insiders have confirmed that Danny and his wife Georgia are still an item and are navigating through the recent events. "They are clearly looking to put things behind them, and move on with their lives. It really hasn't been a good time at all but they are very much together," a source disclosed to the Mirror.
Our insider also mentioned that the couple remains optimistic and focused on their future. "Things have been hard but they are moving forward as a couple," they revealed.
Just last week, someone in the know described Danny's indiscretion as a "slap in the face" for Georgia, aged 38.
Danny and Georgia's romance kicked off back in 2009 after crossing paths at a Miss London event, but it wasn't all smooth sailing. Georgia previously opened up about their early days, admitting: "He was a bit of a d*ck, and I didn't really like him," before revealing that Danny had to work hard for a year to win her over for a date.
