Channel 5 The Au Pair filming locations as Ireland doubles for England

New thriller The Au Pair comes to Channel 5 this evening - but viewers may recognise the filming locations.

The renowned British actor, best known for his portrayal of Hercule Poirot in 70 Agatha Christie adaptations over a span of 25 years, will be seen as George, a diabetic father who relocates next door to his daughter Zoe Dalton (played by Sally Bretton).

Zoe (Sally Bretton), a seamstress, leads a content life with her successful husband Chris (Kenny Doughty) and their two stepchildren, Amber and Noah, in a picturesque English countryside home. However, their tranquil existence is disrupted when they hire an au pair, Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), and their lives are forever changed.

The four-part drama will air on Channel 5 across four nights, with the first episode premiering at 9pm on Monday (March 10). With its breathtaking scenery and countryside vistas, viewers might be curious about the filming locations of The Au Pair.

Where was The Au Pair filmed?

The series was shot in the Republic of Ireland, in collaboration with Irish co-producers MK1 Studios. Although the series is based in both France and the English countryside, the actual filming took place approximately an hour south of Dublin.

The Express reports the Irish countryside also served as a stand-in for the Cotswolds. The Victorian mansion featured in the show is the real-life Lis na Carrig, located in Foxrock, a posh suburb of Dublin

When not being used for TV dramas, this venue hosts events, corporate retreats, birthdays, and more. Both French and Irish production companies were involved in the creation of the show.

Samuel Kissous, CEO of the production company Pernel Media, told The Hollywood Reporter: "The parts that play in [the picturesque English region known as] the Cotswolds were actually [shot] one hour south of Dublin.

"But I’ve had even British people look at the show and tell me: ‘Wow, the Cotswolds look really pretty.'"

Shoots kicked off in October and wrapped in November 2023.

Kenny Doughty, who previously starred in Vera, took to social media to announce the end of shooting for The Au Pair: "And that is a WRAP on The Au Pair.

"Thank you to everyone for being so welcoming but huge huge love and appreciation to my fellow actors; Sir David Suchet, Sally Bretton and @ludmillamakowski - what a journey we've had!! And thank you Dublin".

Au Pair airs nightly at 9pm on Channel 5, with episodes to be released on streaming service, My5.
