The festival of colours, which is being celebrated on March 14 this year, usually marks the arrival of spring. It is celebrated to mark good harvests and seek fertile lands, while in some areas, Holi is also celebrated as a symbol of love between Lord Krishna and Radha. On this joyous occasion, President Droupadi Murmu extended her wished to the nation, sending a message of “love, harmony and unity” to the people.
Celebrities, politicians extend wishes: Apart from President Droupadi Murmu, prominent political leaders like Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Leaders of Opposition in Parliament Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi extended their wishes to the public, wishing everyone a happy and safe Holi. Many Bollywood celebrities and influencers also took to their Instagram to wish everyone a happy Holi on Friday.
Why is Holi celebrated? The most common legend associated with the celebration of Holi is the tale of Holika and Prahlad. However, the festival also has other origins. Many cultures believe that Holi is celebrated as a symbol of love between Lord Krishna and Radha, which is why the festival is celebrated with great fervor in Mathura and Vrindavan. It is also believed that Holi is celebrated to mark the arrival of spring in the country, when people wish for fertile lands and a good harvest season.

Holi 2025 Celebration LIVE Updates: Ex-Manipur CM N Biren Singh calls for peace on Holi
Manipur's former chief minister N Biren Singh on Friday said he prayed for restoration of peace in the state on the occasion of the Holi festival.
Holi, which is observed for five days in the state, has been celebrated in a sustained manner due to the prevailing situation in Manipur, he said.
In his first video message since his resignation last month, Singh said, "I extend my best wishes to all on the occasion of Holi. Holi is traditionally and historically inseparable from Manipur."
The festival celebrates the triumph of truth, said the former CM of the state which is under President's Rule. — PTI

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the state government has devised phased plans for the systematic development of all historical sites associated with Vaishnav saint Srimanta Sankardev.
Sarma also inaugurated a Rs 11.14-crore infrastructural development project at Sankardev Than, Patbaushi Satra, and Dev Damodar Dev Guru's Adi Dham in Barpeta to safeguard Vaishnav heritage.
The CM, during his visit to Barpeta, laid the foundation for a Rs 7.32 crore infrastructural development initiative at Chinpara Bhithi Than, a site of historical significance where Srimanta Sankardev had spent a year. — PTI

Holi 2025 Celebration LIVE Updates: Manipur celebrates low-key Holi
The Holi festival, celebrated on Friday by the majority Meitei community in violence-hit Manipur, was low-key for the second year in a row.
One of the biggest festivals of the community, Holi or Yaosang is held for five days in the northeastern state and it officially commenced on Friday evening with the burning of straw huts built at Shri Govindaji temple complex in Palace Compound and at a few other localities.
Like the previous year, the event has been restricted to religious activities associated with the festival and community sports events.
No entertainment programmes such as the nightly cultural dance would be held, according to organisers.
Manipur has been rocked by ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023, rendering at least 250 people dead and thousands homeless. — PTI

Friday prayers concluded peacefully in Sambhal's Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid amid tight security, an official said.
Ulemas and mutawallis had fixed the time for 'Jumma Namaz', extending it by about an hour to 2:30 pm, because of Holi.
District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya said both Holi and the Namaz concluded peacefully.
He said tight security arrangements were made in view of Holi and the Friday prayers. Personnel from the Rapid Action Force, Provincial Armed Constabulary and the local police remained fully alert. Surveillance was also conducted through drones. — PTI

Holi 2025 Celebration LIVE Updates: Over 5,000 police personnel ensure peace as Jaipur, Rajasthan celebrate with enthusiasm
Holi was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Rajasthan on Friday. People danced to drum beats, applied gulal (colours), and visited friends and relatives to exchange greetings.
Temples, including Jaipur's Govind Devji temple, also saw lively celebrations. Women and children played with colours and water guns in residential areas. Foreign tourists joined the festivities in Jaipur and Pushkar.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and other political leaders celebrated Holi with the public.
Over 5,000 police personnel ensured peace in Jaipur, with no incidents reported. However, around 40 people fell ill after consuming bhang in Pushkar and were hospitalised. (PTI)

Holi 2025 Celebrations LIVE Updates: Delhi witnesses sunny morning on Holi
People in Delhi woke up to a clear sky on the day of Holi with the city recording a minimum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius, 2.5 notches above normal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a generally cloudy sky with a spell of very light rain or drizzle towards the evening or night.
The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 33 degrees Celsius, the weather office said, adding the relative humidity was 80 per cent at 8:30 am.
Meanwhile, the air quality data on the Central Pollution Control Board's website was unavailable in the morning. (PTI)
