According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Udta Teer has registered advance booking collections of Rs 2.59 crore for its opening day. With mixed reviews coming in, Udta Teer is projected to earn Rs 3-5 crore net on its opening day.

Meanwhile, ahead of its release, Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Udta Teer has been denied permission for theatrical release in Nepal. According to Nepal-based news website Onlinekhabar, the ministry informed the film’s distributor, National Cine Group, of the decision through an official letter. The letter stated that Nepal’s Central Film Censor Board found the film’s content to be in violation of the restrictions outlined under Section 8(3) of the National Cinema (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026. As a result, Udta Teer will not be released in Nepal.

Udta Teer follows Bilal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a Pakistani spy who loses his memory after a blast and starts to think of himself as an Indian Counter-Terrorism Squad officer. Sara Ali Khan plays the role of another officer who doesn’t know about his real identity. Sara and Ayushmann are reuniting in Udta Teer after featuring together in the 2026 romantic comedy Pati Patni Aur Woh Do.

Produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, Udta Teer also stars Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Raghubir Yadav and Supriya Pilgaonkar. The movie was initially scheduled to hit theatres on October 9, but the makers postponed it to get a cleaner release window.

Udta Teer is 'a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer'

A note by trade analyst Ramesh Bala read, "A HILARIOUS SPY COMEDY WITH A FRESH TWIST! #udtateer revolves around a Pakistani spy in India whose memory loss triggers a hilarious chain of confusion, mistaken identities and unexpected situations. @ayushmannk is terrific, effortlessly switching between comedy, confusion and emotional moments with his trademark timing. #saraalikhan delivers a lively performance, bringing charm, humour and excellent chemistry with Ayushmann. #rahulbose makes a strong impact with his acting. The screenplay cleverly blends cross-border tensions, identity confusion and situational comedy without losing its entertaining spirit. Director #akashakaushik keeps the proceedings engaging with amusing twists, quirky characters and a good dose of emotions. Overall, #udtateer is a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer that turns an unusual spy-and-memory-loss premise into a fun-filled theatrical experience! A COMPLETE PAISA VASOOL ENTERTAINER!"

Udta Teer 'is an enjoyable entertainer'

Trade analyst Joginder Tuteja took to X to post, "AN ENJOYABLE FILM WITH TWIST PAR TWIST PAR TWIST. First and foremost, this isn’t really a spoof on the spy genre. Yes, there is humour but that doesn’t mean that the film is making fun of the genre or the spies in general. As a matter of fact the film works well as a thriller, what with several Abbas-Mustan style twists that arise due to confusion around the real identity of Ayushmann Khurrana, something that stays right till the end. In fact I truly believe that had the film actually stayed into the action-thriller zone and kept away from comedy, then it could well have been an even more enjoyable film. That said, what you see is something that entertains and engages you, especially in the second half when multiple angles starts emerging around true identity of not just Ayushmann but other characters as well. The actor is in good form yet again and delivers well as both the Pakistani agent as well as Indian officer. Another actor who impresses is Suhail Nayyar. He has a meaty role in the film and is present from start till the finish. He is really good. Sara Ali Khan and Gulshan Grover are decent while Mukul Dev, Rahul Bose and Ram Kapoor have the most fun. The film has good production values and especially BGM and action fit the narrative well. Cinematography too is rich and as per the mood of the film. Overall, this one is an enjoyable entertainer by director Aakash Kaushik and should grow well in days to come on the basis of word of mouth."

'Udta Teer is a timepass spy comedy'

User @fenil_seta said via X, "The basic premise of a Pakistani spy losing his memory and turning into a true Indian patriot itself deserves brownie points. Sadly, the film turns serious in the second half, which is where it falters a lot. There are too many twists and double-crosses and instead of impressing viewers, it makes them lost interest into the film. A scene and a song post-interval seem forcefully added and look completely out of place. @ayushmannk is great as a spy gone rogue due to memory issues. Sara Ali Khan performs ably but her character hardly has anything to do. @RahulBose1 delivers the funniest performance of his career. Even the late Mukul Dev is too good. Ram Kapoor, @GulshanGroverGG and @SuhailNayyar (Dhruv Kumar Singh) are entertaining. Sandeep Anand (Shambhu; Vikrant’s househelp) and @smita007 (I S Holkar; Vikrant’s boss) raise laughs. Kavya Kumar (Sharif) is funny. All in all, Udta Teer is a timepass spy comedy."

Udta Teer 'has its creative moments'

User devmannush's note on Reddit read, "Watched first day first show, here's my review: The concept is really nice, like imagining it sounds funny on paper. The movie delivers it in first half. You get good jokes, absurdity and a simplicity that you would expect from these movies. But the second half is where it tries to become serious. Like it tries to take itself too seriously such that the movie breaks the immersion out from comedy and tries to become a nationalist film by mentioning all the real events and unnecessary songs included. So, is it a bad movie? No not at all. Is it a fun watch? Yes, definitely. Just don't expect too much, it's more of a one time watch. If you love the 2015 film Dishoom then you're gonna like this. However I am gonna keep Dishoom over this film as that was much funnier film overall. At the end of the movie, yes there's a plot twist kind of ending which is slightly predictable but it's fine. Its like a one and done movie you will definitely laugh a lot, but then also realise that okay they could have done better with it. If you're going through the comedic route, you should proceed with it. But the film tries to mix it with real events and try to emotionally engage us which feels kinda off. But again, the movie has its creative moments. The director has the vision. Like at times you're gonna appreciate it and say that omg this is the comedy movie we deserved. Then there are some moments in which you would say okay this is classic bollywood. Overall rating I would give to it : 3/5 or maybe 2.5. (Its like a go for it timepass movie, you won't regret watching it. But nothing much memorable as well. Seriously there are some good jokes though)"

Udta Teer review: Ayushmann Khurrana’s spy comedy is a ‘rollicking entertainer’

X user @navneet_mundhra shared, "Udta Teer review: Bang for the buck. I went into the cinema hall with a hint of apprehension. Would an urban spy comedy hold my attention for more than two hours? But Udta Teer passed the test with flying colours. Director Akash A Kaushik has chosen an unconventional idea and layered the screenplay with zany situations and colourful characters. The tone is quirky, but the storytelling remains mainstream enough to appeal to a wider audience. Ayushmann Khurrana gets the beats of his character right. His entry sequence is terrific, while the portions where he loses his memory are among the film’s highlights. His comic timing feels wonderfully effortless. Sara Ali Khan brings a lively presence to the screen, with natural expressions. Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor and Rahul Bose provide terrific support to the narrative. Sikhya Entertainment also deserves a mention for backing projects that take a detour from the beaten path. Overall, Udta Teer is a rollicking entertainer packed with hilarious moments and makes for a very good weekend watch."

Udta Teer review: Ayushmann-starrer's 'first half a fun ride, with some scenes landing really well'

A fan @imashishsrrk took to X to post, "The concept was brilliant, but the treatment wasn't. The second half felt like it was written by a 10-year-old kid. It was too bad. Nahi, mazaak ho raha hai! Seems like we took an Udta Teer by watching the second half. The first half was a fun ride, with some scenes landing really well. The start was a bit slow, but the film picks up after half an hour and entertains you until the interval. The main problem starts with the second half. Childish writing, the same boring Dharma nostalgic elements and unnecessary songs make it even more boring for the audience. Don't know why they wanted to release this in theatres. It should have gone directly to OTT. Ayushmann Khurrana is so mid in this one. He is such a fabulous actor, but there seems to be little effort from him here. His action sequences are absolutely flat, and even his comedy doesn't work. A forgettable film for him. Sara Ali Khan brings the same old gudiya act. Her role seems limited to looking good on screen. Wasted opportunity. The comedy works in the first half, but becomes irritating in the second. I was like, “Mujhe ghar jaana hai.” The very childish climax is the cherry on top. Not recommended at all. Watch it on OTT for the first half."

Udta Teer Review and Release Live Updates: Ayushmann Khurrana's film 'has a promising premise'

X user @_mrchaturvedi added in his Udta Teer review, "Even if I set aside the plot's implausibilities and surrender to its absurdity, the humour remains frustratingly inconsistent. Some jokes land, but a substantial portion falls flat, leaving me acutely aware of the punchline without actually laughing. The film's treatment of its premise is particularly disappointing because there was considerable scope for a sharper, more cohesive satire. The mockery of Pakistan's ISI and Army occasionally works, but the screenplay struggles to sustain that irreverence. The political references, including those invoking Operation Sindoor, sometimes feel inserted rather than organically integrated into the narrative. A spoof need not adhere to realism, but it does need a coherent comic sensibility. Udta Teer frequently mistakes the absurdity of a situation for the effectiveness of the joke. Ayushmann Khurrana is hit and miss. He has moments where his comic timing works, but there are stretches where his performance feels surprisingly flat. The climax twist is genuinely effective and provides a brief glimpse of what the film might have achieved with a more disciplined screenplay. The post-credit scene, meanwhile, presents an interesting what-if. What if that revelation had been positioned as the actual climax instead? It might have given the narrative a more compelling direction, or at least a more satisfying payoff. What I find equally disheartening is the apparent proliferation of influencer accounts handing out four-star ratings using strikingly similar wording. If these endorsements are paid promotions presented as independent reviews, they do a disservice to audiences who rely on critics to make informed viewing decisions. A four-star verdict does not become credible merely because several accounts repeat the same adjectives. Such practices risk eroding the credibility of these reviewers while reducing film criticism to a marketing exercise. Udta Teer has a promising premise, a handful of effective comic moments and a worthwhile climax, but its uneven humour, muddled tonal identity, stretched second half and forgettable music ultimately make it a disappointing experience."

Udta Teer Review and Release Live Updates: Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer's 'climax suddenly seems to demand'

X user @_mrchaturvedi shared Udta Teer review that read, "Udta Teer is a below-average film that squanders a promising premise through uneven writing, an inconsistent screenplay and an inability to decide what it wants to be. The film has the ingredients for an entertaining political spoof, but its execution rarely lives up to that potential. Several sequences are unnecessarily stretched, the narrative lacks pace, and the overall experience leaves little impact. Even the three songs are thoroughly mediocre, none memorable enough to stay with me once the film ends. Biggest issue with the film is its tonal inconsistency. For most of its runtime, I watched it as a spoof, expecting irreverent humour and a satirical take on its subject. However, the climax suddenly seems to demand that I take the proceedings seriously. There is nothing inherently wrong with blending parody and drama, but the transition needs to be earned. Here, it feels as though the film itself is uncertain about its intentions."

Udta Teer Review and Release Live Updates: Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer 'a good attempt and can surely be watched once'

X user @aavishhkar shared his Udta Teer review and wrote, "A few misfires, But mostly on target. It is a decent entertainer. Comedy of errors is a tough genre to crack, especially in today’s times. But Akash Kaushik and his team get it right. The comedy of mistaken identities doesn’t make too many mistakes while telling its own story! Ayushmann Khurrana does a wonderful job and the same can be said of the ensemble, especially Rahul Bose. Sara Ali Khan lends good support. This is one of those rare films where almost every character leaves a mark. Full marks to the casting director! The film starts off really well. The first half is fun-filled and keeps you engaged. The second half, however, meanders and loses some grip, making it harder to hold your attention. Thankfully, it ends on a satisfying note. Akash Kaushik’s direction is nice, while the witty dialogues make you giggle. The editing is good, but the music is average. Overall, Udta Teer is a good attempt and can surely be watched once."

Udta Teer Review: 'Late Mukul Dev is an absolute delight'

X page @MovieReview_Hub added in its Udta Teer review, "Ayushmann Khurrana is in his element, effortlessly balancing comedy and action. His comic timing is terrific. Late Mukul Dev is an absolute delight as Azhar Maqsood, making a strong impression with his expressions and impeccable comic timing. Rahul Bose is equally brilliant, while Sara Ali Khan brings charm to her role. Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Suhail Nayyar and the rest of the ensemble add considerable entertainment value. The vibrant visuals, eccentric characters and clever cinematic references further enhance the film's appeal. The first half is particularly engaging, although the second half loses some momentum with repetitive memory-loss sequences. A tighter edit could have made it even better. Despite this minor setback, #udtateer is a mad, inventive and thoroughly entertaining spy comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously. Verdict:. Plenty of laughs, terrific performances and a refreshing concept make this one worth watching!"

'Udta Teer arrives as a refreshing change,' says early review

X page @MovieReview_Hub shared, "Udta Teer Review: A Refreshingly mad comedy that delivers plenty of laugh Was getting tired of the typical India-Pakistan spy dramas, Udta Teer arrives as a refreshing change! Udta teer a hilarious mix of mistaken identities, espionage, chaos and confusion. Written and directed by Aakash A. Kaushik, the film takes an unconventional approach to the spy genre, blending situational comedy with a satirical take on patriotism, terrorism and bilateral politics. The witty dialogues, hilarious situations and perfectly timed background score are major strengths. The film finds humour in the absurdities of its characters and circumstances rather than relying on predictable punchlines."

Udta Teer Review: 'Sara Ali Khan supports Ayushmann Khurrana well'

X user @saminaUFshaikh shared her review of Udta Teer and wrote, "An attempt to fizzle out the ongoing tension between two nations by adding a tinge of dry humour, but also affirming: “Watan Ke Aage Kucch Nahi”. @ayushmannk steals the show with a disorganised personality time & again questioning himself: Aakhir Hoon Kaun Main? But with massive realisation of his ‘Deshbhakti’ for India! @SaraAliKhan proves to be a good supporting system for him while I did wish her role was extended for more screen presence. Overall - if you’re up for bringing in some humour with lame jokes as well, head for this one as it shall change your chaotic day into a good one!"

Udta Teer Review: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rahul Bose's film 'a brilliant comedy of errors'

Film Critic Het Tanna shared his Udta Teer review and read, "Udta Teer is entertaining and a brilliant comedy of errors. The patriotic comedy delivers brilliantly. Definitely one of the finest laughter experiences of the year. The runtime and screenplay is thoroughly humorous and funny. #ayushmannkhurrana delivers a super solid performance. Filled with layers and absolutely spot on comic timing. #rahulbose smashes the ball out of the park with his character. He looks absolutely amazing and the situations are absolutely comic. The screenplay and storyline is filled with thrill, comedy, drama and patriotism. The runtime is definitely filled with comedy. Mukul Dev acts brilliantly and delivers a strong performance. The leading ladies Sara Ali Khan, Smita Tambe are superb. Ram Kapoor is brilliant, Brijendra Kala boasts off absolutely strong screen presence. Gulshan Grover is funny. Udta Teer has everything in store for us - filled with entertainment. Go for it. Comedy of errors done right."

Udta Teer early review: 'Climax twists can be compared to the likes of Dhurandhar 2 and Drishyam'

Trade analyst Sumit Kadel added in his Udta Teer review, "There are also multiple moments where the Pakistani Army and terrorists are mocked through clever meta-references, our padosis wil hate those sceens. Even the famous Twitter hashtag #pkmb finds a place in the narrative. Writer-director Akash Kaushik deserves immense credit for his bold and unconventional storytelling. The first half is hilarious, while the second half takes an interesting turn. The final 20 minutes and climax deliver twists that can be compared to the likes of Dhurandhar2 and Drishyam. The climax is terrific, and audiences with a sound understanding of geopolitics will find it even more rewarding. Ayushmann Khurrana delivers an excellent performance and fits the role of a Pakistani agent perfectly. His ability to stand out in unconventional, out-of-the-box content has always been one of his biggest strengths, and he excels once again in this film. Late Mukul Dev and Rahul Bose are the film’s lifelines, delivering one hilarious moment after another. Sara Ali Khan has a relatively small but impactful role. Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and the rest of the supporting cast also deliver good performances. Overall Udta Teer is a refreshingly unconventional entertainer whose unique writing, superb comedy and shocking climax twist have the potential to win the audience’s hearts. If audiences turn up in theatres, the film could generate strong word of mouth. I rarely give a film 4 stars, but this one definitely deserves it- Kyuki Mulk se badhkar kuch bhi nai."

Udta Teer early review: Ayushmann Khurrana's film is an 'intelligently written and directed films of 2026'

Trade analyst Sumit Kadel took to X to post his Udta Teer review and wrote, "A laugh riot with a knockout climax. Udta Teer is one of the most unique, entertaining and intelligently written and directed films of 2026. You can call it a spy comedy that consistently succeeds in making the audience laugh. Ayushmann Khurrana plays a Pakistani spy who infiltrates the Indian intelligence agency but subsequently loses his memory and forgets that he is Pakistani. The film features several hilarious sequences that will leave you in splits, particularly an extended scene involving Rahul Bose [ it features one of the most iconic kissing scene which will be remembered for years ].

Udta Teer movie review: Our verdict

Indian Express' film critic Shubhra Gupta gave Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's film 2 stars and wrote in her review, "There’s much to enjoy here. Or at least that’s what we are promised, as the Pakistani establishment, all gung-ho about their man on the inside, toplined by Gulshan Grover and Ram Kapoor spouting uss-paar-waali-Punjabi, gobbles biryani and korma. As Masood, who is constantly swiping right on ‘Hinder’ with its multiple ‘hoors’, Mukul Dev is a hoot. And an ensemble which includes Rahul Bose as a top Indian spy chief, Brijendra Kala as a compromised babu, and Raghubir Yadav as a canny bearded maulana, should have had no difficulty in providing the laughs."

She added, "This film is neither fish nor fowl, neither Gadar nor Pathaan, but a tedious mix of spoof and sentiment which gets into its stride only sporadically."
