Doc’n Roll Film Festival to host world premiere of new Peven Everett documentary

Documenting the life of the Chicago house vocalist, Peven Everett: Voice of a Generation features interviews with Damon Albarn, DJ Rashida, Moodymann and Bootie Brown

London's Doc'n Roll Film Festival will host the world premiere of a new documentary centred around the life of legendary Chicago house vocalist Peven Everett next month. 

Celebrating its 13th edition this year, Doc'n Roll Film Festival will once again host a plethora of music documentary screenings across the UK capital's cinemas from October 22 until November 8.

This year's programme includes the world premiere of Peven Everett: Voice of a Generation, a new documentary which follows the pioneering musician in his journey across the decades from "child jazz prodigy to a pioneering force across soul, house and dance music", including his work on timeless house classic ‘Gabriel’ with Roy Davis Jr.

The film, which is directed by Denholm Hewlett - the son of Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett - features interviews with several music figures close to Everett, including Damon Albarn, Yasiin Bey, Gorillaz, Karriem Riggins, DJ Rashida, Marc Cary, The Twilite Tone, Moodymann and Bootie Brown.

Hewlett and Everett will take part in a Q&A ahead of the film's debut screening at the Barbican Centre on October 30, with later screenings of the film available across the festival's run.

Elsewhere on Doc'n Roll Film Festival's 2026 programme is Punk Brighton, which explores the coastal town's punk revolution in the '80s with commentary from Fatboy Slim, and TAKKUUK, an abstract documentary film on indigenous culture in the Arctic through the lens of people from Greenland and Sápmi, with a soundtrack created by BICEP.
