Nick Reiner spared death penalty if convicted of killing parents
by Gabs · MyNewsGh.comNick Reiner could face life in prison without parole if convicted of killing his parents, Hollywood director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, after prosecutors ruled out the death penalty.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced the decision on Tuesday, September 15, saying he had consulted Nick’s siblings before making the decision. According to Hochman, they made their views “clear.”
The 33-year-old was indicted by a grand jury on murder charges, including a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait and the use of a knife. He has pleaded not guilty and is represented by a public defender.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele, 70, were found unresponsive at their Brentwood home in the early hours of December 14, 2025, after they were stabbed.
Nick was arrested hours later near the University of Southern California and has remained in custody without bail.
Hochman said prosecutors reached the decision not to pursue the death penalty after what he described as a “rigorous review” that was “careful and thorough.”
“The brutal murders of Michele and Rob Reiner are ones that will never leave us,” Hochman said. “We believe we have that murderer right now in custody.”
