Hilda Baci, the celebrity chef, has begun her latest ambitious attempt to secure a Guinness World Records (GWR), this time for cooking the largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice.

The attempt, which commenced on Friday at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, was moved from its originally planned venue at Muri Okunola Park to accommodate a surge in registered attendees.

Baci, who previously held the title for the longest cooking marathon, is undertaking this new challenge with a custom-built pot measuring six meters wide.

In a recent Instagram update, Baci shared behind-the-scenes preparations, showcasing the massive pot and humorously confirming she had washed it herself to ensure it was “squeaky clean”.

“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she wrote.

The chef had earlier revealed that she would be using 250 bags of rice for the world record attempt.

Baci first gained fame in May 2023. She set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

However, Irish chef Alan Fisher later surpassed her record in November of the same year.
