BBNaija’s Queen confirms split from husband after one year of marriage

Queen Mercy Atang, the reality TV star, has confirmed the end of her marriage to David Oyekanmi.

The former BBNaija housemate addressed her marital status in a now-deleted Instagram comment.

The confirmation came in response to a fan’s query, where user Makachrist wrote, “Queen, hope you are still married because Asa you are too beautiful to be single”.

The reality star replied: “Single and unavailable”.

Her statement follows months of speculation about a split, which began in August when the couple unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Queen also removed all wedding photos and videos from her social media page at that time.

The reality star and David had a whirlwind romance in 2024. They got engaged in February and held their traditional, court, and white wedding ceremonies all within the same year.

Queen had previously revealed that she received three signs from God before agreeing to marry David.

The reality TV star said, although she had been friends with him since 2016 when they met at a beauty pageant, “I never really thought David would be my husband”.

She said she agreed to marry David when she got her third sign.

“I told God I needed three signs before going into this relationship. I saw two signs, but the third one did not come, and I told him I am not going into something I am not sure of. He said he is very certain that I am his wife,” she said.

“So he told me that he wanted to go for an interview. I prayed and asked God if David was mine, this thing he is about to do, let it come to pass. After a few minutes, he called me to say that he had gotten it.”
