Mercy Aigbe also proved her mettle as a producer, with her two films ‘My Mother Is A Witch’ and ‘Farmer’s Bride’ earning seven and six nominations respectively, making her a dominant force in this year’s lineup.

Speaking at the unveiling, Toke Benson-Awoyinka,  the commissioner for tourism, arts and culture, acknowledged the high expectations surrounding the awards’ return to Lagos.

“Lagos is the home of excellence, the state of aquatic splendour, so I know people are expectant,” she stated.

Addressing the organisers’ ambitious Guinness World Record attempt for the longest red carpet, the commissioner highlighted that the plan to host it on the new Coastal Road was a testament to Lagos’ unique capacity under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“It’s because it is Lagos; that is the only reason you can have a runway on a highway,” she added.

Also present was Yinka Adebayo, group executive director for West & Central Africa at Omnicom Media Group, who unveiled the nominee list alongside the commissioner.

Adebayo hailed the awards’ return to Lagos, calling it a “fantastic idea”.
