‘X-Men’ star Eric Dane battles nervous system disease

ALS is a rare nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function.
The disease makes the nerve cells break down and reduces functionality in the muscles that they supply.
The film star, known for his role in X-Men, told PEOPLE he feels “fortunate” to still be able to work despite the diagnosis.

He also thanked his family for their support during “this challenging time” and revealed he’ll be returning to set next week.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” he said.
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week.

“I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Dane, who stars as the Jacobs family patriarch on ‘Euphoria’, is set to begin production of season 3 of the drama series on April 14.
The actor’s first major break into the film industry was in 2000 when he featured in ‘The Basket’.
Since then, he has appeared in several movies including ‘Zoe,’ ‘Duncan,’ ‘Jack & Jane,’ ‘Sol Goode,’ ‘Feast,’ ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ and ‘Open Water 2’.
