Renowned South Korean filmmaker Hong Sang Soo’s 33rd feature film, 'In Our Day,' has been officially invited to compete in the prestigious Competition section of the '75th Berlin International Film Festival.'

The festival will take place in Berlin, Germany, from February 13 to 23, 2025, with the film set to make its world premiere during the event. The film’s international distributor, Finecut, confirmed on January 21 (local time) that the Berlinale executive committee had announced the invitation during an official press conference.

This marks Hong Sang Soo’s sixth consecutive appearance in the Berlinale’s main competition, following his earlier works such as 'The Woman Who Ran,' 'Introduction,' 'The Novelist’s Film,' 'Walk Up,' and 'In Water.'

Over the years, Hong has achieved remarkable success at the Berlinale, winning multiple Silver Bear awards, including Best Actress for On the Beach at Night Alone (67th Berlinale), Best Director for The Woman Who Ran (70th Berlinale), Best Screenplay for Introduction (71st Berlinale), and the Jury Grand Prize for The Novelist’s Film and Walk Up at the 72nd and 74th editions, respectively.

Hong’s long-time partner, actress Kim Min Hee, who also serves as the executive producer of 'In Our Day,' continues to play a pivotal role in his cinematic journey. Kim and Hong publicly confirmed their relationship in 2017, and since then, she has become a consistent collaborator in his creative works, contributing both on-screen and behind the scenes.

In the invitation statement, Berlinale Executive Committee Chair Tricia Tuttles and program directors praised 'In Our Day,' stating: "We were captivated by the formal language and rhythm your latest work achieves, as well as the profound insights it offers. 'In Our Day' is deeply intuitive in its portrayal of people and the flow between them, while also being sharply witty and delightfully humorous at many moments. Congratulations on this exceptional achievement."

The film stars Ha Seong Guk, Kim Joo Bong, Kim Min Hee and Park Miso—frequent collaborators of Hong Sang Soo—and depicts the story of Dong Hwa, a poet in his 30s, who visits his lover Joon Hee’s home by chance, sparking unexpected events.

'In Our Day' will be released in South Korea during the first half of 2025, following its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.
