Actor Lee Dong Hwi says he didn't invite Song Min Ho to the VIP screening of 'Method Acting' amid military service controversy

Actor Lee Dong Hwi has clarified that he did not invite Song Min Ho to the VIP premiere of his film 'Method Acting,' stating that he only learned about the singer’s attendance at the venue.

Song Min Ho, who has been sent to trial over allegations of poor performance during his alternative military service, recently drew attention after being spotted at the film’s VIP screening.

Lee Dong Hwi, who stars in the film directed by Lee Ki Hyuk, shared his thoughts ahead of the movie’s release during an interview held in the Jongno District area on March 16.

Set to premiere on March 18, 'Method Acting' is a comedy about a “funny actor” named Lee Dong Hwi who rose to fame through comedy but no longer wants to perform comedic roles. Determined to be recognized for sincere acting, he becomes excessively immersed in a role, leading to a series of unexpected events.

Recently, a VIP premiere for the film was held at a Megabox theater inside COEX, where witnesses claimed to have seen Song Min Ho in attendance. Photos shared online showed the singer covering his face with a hat and mask.

Song Min Ho and Lee Dong Hwi are widely known to be close friends, leading some to speculate that the actor may have personally invited him to the screening despite the ongoing controversy.

However, Lee Dong Hwi addressed the speculation directly during the interview. “I didn’t invite him,” he said. “I only found out he was there at the venue that day.” He reiterated that the situation was “unexpected.”

Meanwhile, Song Min Ho has been accused of violating the Military Service Act during his time as a public service worker starting in March 2023, allegedly failing to properly report to duty. The case was referred to prosecutors in May of last year, and the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office indicted him without detention on December 30 on charges of violating the act.

According to reports, Song Min Ho largely admitted during the police investigation that he had left his workplace during working hours.
