TWS shares message behind their newest mini-album 'NO TRAGEDY'
by Sofia-Sayson · allkpopOn April 27 KST, rising boy group TWS made their return with the mini-album ‘NO TRAGEDY.’ Ahead of the release, the six-member group (Shinyu, Dohoon, Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, and Kyungmin) held a media showcase to commemorate the project.
Discussing the title track "You, You," Jihoon explained that it portrays TWS "completely infatuated with love," adding, "I think this might be the first time we’ve talked about love in such a direct way in our songs."
Jihoon also revealed that while practicing, the members often found themselves asking, "What is love?" He shared, "The answer we came to was the way TWS feels toward our fans and the support they show us. 'You, You' is a song where we express those familiar, everyday feelings of love in our own style."
Hanjin chimed in, noting that his first impression of the track was that it immediately gave him "TWS vibes." He added, "Through the song, we’ll be able to share our story of youth and show more grown-up, mature sides of ourselves."
Shinyu echoed this sentiment regarding the shift from their previous work: "I think you'll be able to see a more refined, mature vibe overall. In our previous album, 'play hard,' we focused on energetic performances and really tried to blast that energy out." He noted that this time, they focused on "restraining" that charm and holding that energy back.
"That bright, youthful energy that people expect from TWS is still very much there. It's just that this time, we've added the courage to dive headfirst into love," Jihoon shared. "In the past, we couldn't quite handle those heart-fluttering emotions, but now, we express them more naturally. We've grown while maintaining that refreshing energy, encapsulating a gradual, layered growth in this album."
Youngjae added that while their youthful concept helped them win over fans, ‘NO TRAGEDY’ aims to show that their style can take many shapes: "We tried to capture that bold and daring feel of youth, openly confessing love without holding back."
On the album's preparation, Kyungmin shared that he and Youngjae participated in the guide recording for the lead single. "It was my first time, and it was a fun, exciting experience. Since each track is distinctive, I put a lot of thought into approaching the vocals differently for each song."
"All the Possibilities," which opens the album, was described by Shinyu as a track that "unfolds our confidence to become whatever our loved ones desire."
Dohoon, who co-wrote the lyrics alongside Jihoon and Youngjae, said, "The lead single is all about an honest confession of feelings for someone who evokes memories of a beautiful dream. I tried to immerse myself in that context, imagining how people act in romance movies to write my lyrics."
Youngjae also participated in penning the B-side "Fire Escape," a song about conviction and finding salvation amid tragedy. He noted, "I needed more than just my own experiences, so I created a playlist for inspiration and watched movies like 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Wicked.'"
‘NO TRAGEDY’ consists of six tracks: "All the Possibilities," "You, You," "Why You So Bad?," "Get It Now," "Fire Escape," and "Back To Strangers." Notably, Hanjin and Jihoon also lent their hands to writing "Back To Strangers."
