by Demian09 · allkpopThe '4th Blue Dragon Series Awards' took place on July 18 at Paradise City Hotel in Jung-gu, Incheon. The ceremony was hosted once again by Jun Hyun Moo and YoonA, marking their fourth consecutive year as MCs.
This year’s Grand Prize, known as the Daesang, was awarded to Netflix's 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' Actor Park Bo Gum expressed his gratitude, saying, “I sincerely thank the crew who worked hard through all four seasons. It was an honor to portray Gwan Sik. This was made possible thanks to the child actors and senior actor Park Hae Joon.”
Singer and actress IU claimed her first-ever Best Actress award for her performance in 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' “This will likely remain the proudest work of my life,” she said. “It made me feel more alive and expressive than ever.”
IU added, “To all the Aesoons who lived their lives vividly in a world that told us to stay blurry, and to every Geummyeong who planted their dreams with boldness, I dedicate my respect and gratitude.”
Yeom Hye Ran, who played Gwang Rye in the same series, won Best Supporting Actress. “I've never received this much support and praise in my life. It’s overwhelming,” she shared. “I thank the writer and director for giving me a once-in-a-lifetime project.”
Netflix’s 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' also had a strong showing, taking home three awards. It won Best Drama, with Studio& CEO Kwon Mi Kyung stating, “We’re grateful that so many people resonated with the importance of this show.” Director Lee Do Yoon gave credit to actor Ju Ji Hoon, saying, “Whenever I lost my way on set, he stood as a solid pillar. I dedicate this honor to the viewers who embraced our imperfect drama.”
Ju Ji Hoon was awarded Best Actor for his role. “Bringing a comic book to life is no easy feat,” he said. “Thanks to everyone who helped make it realistic, especially my comrade, Director Lee Do Yoon.”
Choo Young Woo received Best New Actor for his role as trauma center doctor Yang Jae Won. “Thank you for allowing me to live as this character and for helping me evolve from Choo Young Woo the person to Choo Young Woo the actor,” he said.
Lee Kwang Soo won Best Supporting Actor for Netflix’s 'Karma.' He shared a humorous anecdote: “D.O. told me he dreamt I died from an infection after getting a hair transplant. He cursed me out but said it was a lucky dream. Thanks, D.O.!”
The Upbit Popularity Awards, determined by fan votes, went to Park Bo Gum, Hyeri, Lee Jun Hyuk, and IU. A minor mix-up occurred when Lee Jun Young mistakenly went on stage due to a name confusion, adding a light-hearted moment to the night.
In the variety category, Netflix’s 'Culinary Class Wars' took home Best Entertainment Program. Director Kim Hak Min revealed, “I once dreamed that Natalie Portman commented on the show. That dream came true in some way.”
He added, “With the help of 300 team members, we made this possible. Season 2 is on its way. We’ll showcase even more amazing dishes and restaurants.”
Lee Soo Ji from 'SNL Korea' and Kian84 from 'Kian's Bizarre B&B' won Best Female and Male Entertainers, respectively. Kian84 thanked his co-stars Jin and Ji Ye Eun, saying, “They didn’t run away from that bizarre house and stuck to the rules until the end. I promise Part 2 will be even better.”
Lee Soo Ji highlighted the hard work of the team: “Over 200 people are staying up late to bring you laughter. We’re doing our best to craft the perfect comedy. If you need a laugh, please come find SNL.”
