Disney+ unveils main poster and trailer for upcoming series 'Low Life' ahead of July 16 premiere
by Sophie-Ha · allkpopDisney+ is ramping up excitement for its highly anticipated original series 'Low Life' by releasing its main poster and trailer just two weeks ahead of the premiere. With a gripping narrative, striking visuals, and a star-studded cast, the series is already drawing intense attention from viewers.
A High-Stakes Survival Game Over a Sunken Treasure
Set in 1977, 'Low Life' follows a twisted web of deception surrounding a sunken treasure ship off the coast of Shinan. The story revolves around a group of so-called “survival-driven country folk” whose greed and instincts collide in a desperate struggle to claim the riches. As each character enters the game with their own agenda, the suspense heightens with every move.
The series is based on a work by renowned webtoon artist Yoon Tae Ho, creator of 'Misaeng.' It’s directed by Kang Yoon Sung, known for the box office hit 'The Roundup' and the gripping series 'Big Bet,' adding layers of realism and tension to the show’s dramatic core.
An Irreplaceable Cast in a Ruthless Game of Deceit
The newly revealed poster showcases ten prominent actors: Ryu Seung Ryong, Yang Se Jong, Im Soo Jung, Kim Eui Sung, Kim Sung Oh, Hong Ki Joon, Lee Dong Hwi, Jung Yun Ho, Lee Sang Jin, and Kim Min. Their intense gazes, paired with the chilling tagline “Deceive. Take. Survive,” create a powerful sense of urgency.
Each character brings a distinct personality to the screen, entangling themselves in unpredictable alliances and betrayals that heighten the show's tension. Viewers can expect ever-evolving relationships and dynamics that keep them hooked with every episode.
“No One Can Be Trusted on This Ship”
The trailer drives home the show’s gritty tone. As news of the treasure spreads, a wave of seekers: Oh Gwan Seok (Ryu Seung Ryong), the well-informed Mr. Song (Kim Jong Soo), treasure-hungry Yang Jung Sook (Im Soo Jung), Professor Kim (Kim Eui Sung), and Im Jeon Chul (Kim Sung Oh) descend on Shinan. Adding complexity is detective Hong Ki (Lee Dong Hwi), who starts to unravel the tangled events.
The trailer ends with Oh Hee Dong (Yang Se Jong) discovering the sunken ship, hinting at the series’ grand scale and dramatic climax. One chilling line, “No one can be trusted on this ship,” captures the essence of a series built on shaky alliances and strategic betrayals. The psychological warfare and mind games promise to outdo 'The Roundup' in tension and 'Misaeng' in realism.
Explosive Online Buzz: “The Cast Alone Is Intimidating”
The poster and trailer have ignited a firestorm of excitement across social media and online communities. Comments include, “Just two weeks left, can’t wait for Low Life.” “I’m re-subscribing to Disney+ for this.” “Im Soo Jung is finally back—so excited.” “Yang Se Jong never disappoints.” “Was this filmed underwater? Incredible.” “Amazing cast. This is going to be epic.” and “I read the webtoon 10 years ago and hoped for a drama version—finally happening.”
Some fans have watched the trailer over ten times, and many are praising the casting and the show's ambitious scale. Actor-specific excitement is also evident: “So good to see Im Soo Jung again,” “Yang Se Jong is always reliable,” and “Been waiting for a Korean drama like this.”
“Staying True to the Original, While Filling in the Gaps”
Director Kang Yoon Sung commented, “'Low Life' is a character-driven drama. We stayed faithful to the original story while reimagining it for the screen.” He added, “Our goal was to authentically capture the atmosphere of the 1970s, and I felt proud seeing it come to life during filming.”
Ryu Seung Ryong shared, “This series reflects elusive desires and the emptiness that follows, like chasing the wind.” Im Soo Jung noted, “Its unpredictability and powerful performances are key draws.” Yang Se Jong, who plays Oh Hee Dong, said he built his character through director discussions and YouTube research due to limited material from the era. Im Soo Jung also revealed how much attention she paid to the details of her flashy, money-obsessed character, from wardrobe to facial expressions.
'Low Life' will premiere on July 16 exclusively on Disney+. Episodes 1 to 3 will be released in the first week, with two episodes airing per week thereafter.
