'Single's Inferno 5' star Mina Sue Choi goes viral as past TV appearances resurface
by K-Soul · allkpopAs Netflix's dating reality show 'Single’s Inferno 5' continues to gain traction, contestant Mina Sue Choi has emerged as a breakout figure, drawing renewed attention to her past television appearances.
According to Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex rankings released on February 3, Mina Sue Choi topped the TV–OTT integrated non-drama buzz rankings for the fifth week of January, placing first among all non-scripted TV personalities. Her popularity is driven largely by her appearance on 'Single’s Inferno 5.'
On the show, Mina Sue Choi drew attention for her candid and at times controversial behavior. While on a date with Song Seung Il, she openly expressed interest in Lim Su Bin, and when speaking to other female contestants, she referenced multiple men while discussing her feelings. Her blunt honesty, which often crossed into perceived rudeness, ultimately earned her the label of the show’s “villain.”
However, online discussions have recently highlighted a side of Mina Sue Choi that contrasts sharply with her on-screen persona. In 2022, she made headlines as the first Korean to win Miss Earth. During the final Q&A round of the pageant, Choi garnered widespread praise after identifying “empathy” as the core solution to addressing social issues.
Mina Sue Choi has also appeared in scripted television. She made a brief appearance in tvN’s drama 'Law and the City,' which concluded in August last year, playing a blind date opposite actor Lee Jong Suk. Though her screen time was short, viewers noted her natural acting.
Netizens reacted with mixed responses, commenting, “How can she be so different from how she appears on Single’s Inferno?” “She’s truly impressive,” and “I honestly don’t understand her behavior.”
Meanwhile, 'Single’s Inferno 5' is a dating reality series set on a remote island known as Inferno, where contestants can only leave the island if they successfully form a couple. The show is known for its raw, candid, and intense approach to romance.
