Kim Da Mi addresses mixed reactions to Netflix film ‘The Great Flood’
by Alec06 · allkpopKim Da Mi has shared her honest thoughts on the divided viewer reactions following the release of Netflix’s film ‘The Great Flood’.
Speaking with SPOTV News on December 22 at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Kim Da Mi admitted, “I didn’t expect the reactions to be this sharply split.”
‘The Great Flood’ is an SF disaster blockbuster set on the final day of Earth, depicting a desperate struggle inside a flooding apartment complex as humanity clings to its last hope of survival. Kim Da Mi stars as Anna, an artificial intelligence researcher tasked with surviving the disaster and carrying the future of humanity, while Park Hae Soo plays Heejo, a man assigned to rescue her.
Addressing the polarized feedback, Kim Da Mi explained, “When I read the script, I didn’t strongly feel a shift in genre or flow. But after seeing the finished film, I could understand how it might be interpreted that way. At its core, it felt like a story about a mother’s love and the meaning of humanity.”
She added, “I expected differences in perspective, but I honestly didn’t think the likes and dislikes would be this extreme. Seeing the reactions made me realize just how wide those differences can be.”
Kim Da Mi also shared that the script was particularly challenging, revealing that she and the director held daily discussions to fully unpack its meaning. “We made a lot of effort to ensure the story would be understandable to viewers,” she said, noting that scenes were often filmed repeatedly as part of the director’s meticulous approach.
