The film has earned around Rs 165 crore (US $19.4 million) in just four days. The film has beaten Vicky Kaushal’s Chaava which previously held the record with US $19.1 million. However, it was not an easy journey for the movie.
L2: Empuraan has undergone changes following voluntary modifications by the filmmakers. The scenes linked to Godhra riots have seen some changes. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has approved these changes and it will be uploaded to theaters by Wednesday.
As per Asianet news, the film has seen cuts or alterations in 24 scenes. A total of 2 minutes and 8 seconds have been cut from the film. One major change is that the timeline card ‘2002-India’ has been replaced with ‘A few years ago’.
The scenes where violence against women was portrayed have been deleted. Another big change is that the name of the film’s antagonist has been changed from Bajrangi to Baldev. This will require re-dubbing.
They have also removed a scene showing a car with an ‘NIA’ name board and muted the name of agency. They have removed multiple visuals of vehicles moving past religious structures and some specific dialogues by the villain character.
The ‘thanks card’ to actor-politician and Union Minister Suresh Gopi has been removed. Suresh Gopi also reacted to this. He said, “Okay, so what is the controversy? Who has raised the controversy? It's all business. Screwing up the psyche of the people and making money. That's all.”
