Choi Whee-sung also known as Wheesung was born on February 5, 1982. He was an avid dancer in high school, where he was part of a rock band.
Wheesung is a renowned South Korean singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born Choi Hwee-sung on February 5, 1982, he debuted in 2002 as a member of the K-pop group A4.
For education, he attended the Sun Moon University, under the journalism major but dropped out. Subsequently attended the Gukje Digital University and Kyung Hee University's Graduate School of Communication.
Wheesung was a popular singer, songwriter and known for his soulful voice and emotionally charged ballads. He is one of the most influential R&B artists in South Korea.
In 2002, he made his official debut with the album ‘Like a Movie,’ which instantly became a hit and his second album ‘It’s Real’, catapulted him to stardom. Over the years, Wheesung continued to dominate the charts with hit songs like Insomnia, Can’t We, and Even Thought of Marriage.
Despite his success, he faced many legal troubles due to his involvement with drugs and in 2011, while investigating for illegal use. However, in 2020, he was found unconscious multiple times after allegedly injecting etomidate, a similar sedative, which reignited concerns about his drug use.
His sudden demise left the South Korean music industry in shock. It was confirmed by his agency, Tajoy Entertainment, on March 10. The renowned R&B singer Wheesung passed away at the age of 43.
