Aaron Rodgers Says Shailene Woodley Told Him Days After Their Engagement, “I Got To Go F— This Guy” Before the Wedding

Aaron Rodgers says the engagement was privately over by March 2021, nearly a year before their breakup became public.
The 42-year-old Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback made the claim on the Sept. 10 episode of teammate Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast. Asked what most people get wrong about him, Rodgers pivoted to his exes: “I dated two women who nobody gives a f— about unless they drop my name,” he said, complaining that their accounts made him out to be “this monster of a partner” and calling it “horse s—.”
From there he said he proposed in December 2020, Woodley accepted, and she removed her ring by March after telling him she didn’t want to be with him. He also said later attempts to reunite went nowhere and disputed the idea that he left her in 2022.
That account clashes with the public timeline. Rodgers announced that he was engaged at the NFL Honors on Feb. 6, 2021. Woodley confirmed the engagement on The Tonight Show later that month, said they’d been engaged “for a while,” and showed her ring. She publicly defended him during his COVID vaccine controversy in November 2021, and their split was reported in February 2022.

In a December 2024 interview with Outside, Woodley said discussing the relationship still made her cry. “It was not right. But it was beautiful,” she said. She also described a six-month depression and a “toxic situation,” but didn’t say Rodgers caused her depression by leaving her.
Rodgers framed his new account as a response to those comments. Woodley hasn’t publicly addressed his allegation as of the evening of Sept. 10.
