The encore is happening. The Summer I Turned Pretty is being turned into a movie.
Prime Video has greenlit The Summer I Turned Pretty feature film to conclude the story, with creator Jenny Han writing and directing her first feature film.
After much fanfare, and theories, it’s now 100% confirmed, according to reporting from TheWrap, there will be an additional follow-up for The Summer I Turned Pretty.
The Prime Video series concluded its three-season last night, ending without showing the main characters’ wedding or engagement—something fans of the books quickly noted. Yes, there were some very steamy/romantic scenes… But no, no wedding.
Jenny Han emphasized the significance of bringing Belly’s story to the screen, noting the importance of a cinematic conclusion. “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
So the movie will likely center on Belly and Conrad’s wedding, addressing the storyline from Han’s final book We’ll Always Have Summer that wasn’t covered in the series finale.
Release Details Unknown
No information has been provided yet about filming status, premiere date, or whether the movie will have a theatrical or streaming-only release. But given the financial success of the series, I’m sure they will work to release it as soon as possible.
It’s hard to believe, but we really are getting an encore already.
