Yohji Yamamoto will be honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award by the British Fashion Council at the upcoming Fashion Awards 2026. The accolade celebrates the legendary Japanese designer’s extensive contributions to the global fashion landscape and his lasting impact across generations of designers.
Since establishing his namesake label in Tokyo in 1972, Yamamoto has remained a transformative force in contemporary design, celebrated for his intellectual ethos, masterful tailoring, and radical reinterpretation of womenswear. Beyond his core lines, Yamamoto’s influence extends into costuming for film and opera alongside Y-3, his groundbreaking collaborative venture with adidas inaugurated in 2003. Addressing the honor, British Fashion Council chief executive officer Laura Weir remarked, “Few designers have changed the way we think about clothes as profoundly as Yamamoto. His work has always challenged convention while remaining deeply rooted in craft, precision and an uncompromising creative vision.”
Yamamoto joins a celebrated roster of prior honorees including Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Tom Ford. The ceremony will also recognize Jimmy Choo’s Sandra Choi with a Special Recognition Award alongside top honors like Designer of the Year.
The Fashion Awards 2026 will take place on November 30 at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
