Disney has released the first official teaser for the live-action remake of Moana, offering a glimpse of the reimagined Motunui island from the animated film. Starring Catherine Laga‘aia as the titular character, the teaser showcases her stunning vocals and clips of her journey to save her island and people.
Same as the original 2016 animated movie, Dwayne Johnson will return to play the demigod Maui, who is crucial in assisting Moana on her adventurous sea voyage. While Johnson returns, the role of Moana will be played by newcomer Laga’aia, taking over from Auli’i Cravalho, the original voice actor. The rest of the cast also includes John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
First announced in April 2023, the live-action Moana will arrive in theaters on July 10, 2026. This marks the shortest gap between a Disney animated film’s original release and its live-action remake, with the remake hitting theaters barely 10 years after the original.
