According to a new report, Grand Theft Auto 6 is targeting a first-quarter 2027 launch on PC

The accelerated timeline marks a significantly shorter console-to-PC release gap than the previous installment

Rockstar Games' recent PC launcher updates suggest infrastructure preparation for the game's massive multiplayer ecosystem

The wait for the PC port of Grand Theft Auto VI might be significantly shorter than history suggests. According to a new report from GamesBeat citing sources familiar with the matter, Rockstar Games is slated to drop the PC version of the blockbuster title in the first quarter of 2027. If the timeline holds, PC players could be running the game by the end of March 2027. This reported release window lands just a few months after the title’s official console debut, which is locked in for November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar Games is currently accepting pre-orders for those initial console versions.

A Q1 2027 rollout represents a massive shift in the developer’s standard playbook, aggressively closing the historically wide gap between its console and PC releases. When the studio launched Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, 2013, the title did not make its way to PC until April 2015. Grand Theft Auto 6 is already viewed as a massive, market-defining industry event, prompting competing publishers to completely clear out their fall 2026 release schedules to avoid going head-to-head with its console debut. If the PC port drops in early 2027, it will land in the middle of a heavily packed first-quarter release slate that currently features heavyweight titles including Stranger Than Heaven, Metroid Ravenous, Until Dawn 2, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, God of War Laufey and Fable.

Beyond the base game, the fast-tracked PC timeline could heavily dictate how the franchise handles its wildly lucrative multiplayer environment. Rockstar has remained notoriously quiet on exactly when it will officially add an online multiplayer mode to Grand Theft Auto 6, though Twitch CEO Dan Clancy recently claimed that the online component will launch next year. The highly popular roleplaying mods that kept the previous game culturally dominant for a decade are strictly PC-only. Recently, Rockstar directly integrated a Grand Theft Auto 5 roleplaying option into its PC launcher, three years after the studio acquired FiveM, the team behind the roleplaying server company. This strategic move to bake roleplaying tools directly into its PC ecosystem suggests that the company is actively preparing its infrastructure ahead of switching on multiplayer features for the new PC port.
