Amazon MGM Studios is officially entering the final stages of casting for the next James Bond. Final screen tests to determine the new 007 are slated to commence within the coming week, starting as early as Friday.
While the complete roster of actors invited to audition remains unconfirmed, industry sources note that British stars Callum Turner and Jack Lowden are actively in the mix. Representatives for Turner, Lowden, and Amazon MGM Studios did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is attached to direct the franchise’s upcoming chapter, with veteran casting director Nina Gold managing the extensive audition process.
Both frontrunners have circulated throughout the franchise’s rumor mill in recent months. Lowden gained notable traction after his Slow Horses co-star Gary Oldman publicly hinted that the Scottish actor had reached the studio shortlist. Addressing the ongoing chatter, Lowden’s wife, Saoirse Ronan, downplayed the domestic speculation, noting that it’s “not really a subject that’s coming up in our house.” Turner similarly addressed 007 inquiries while promoting the arthouse film Rosebush Pruning at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. “It’s very early for that question,” Turner remarked at the time. “I’m not going to comment on it.”
While Amazon MGM Studios has not announced a specific date for the formal reveal, the studio is widely expected to name its next James Bond before the end of the year.
