Star Wars Battlefront III may finally be gaining momentum, as a new report claims Lucasfilm is actively looking for a studio to develop the sequel, with both DICE and Bungie reportedly in the frame. The claim comes from the Quartermann rumor column in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, which was later discussed on Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess Mornings podcast.

According to the column, Lucasfilm has been pushing hard to find a development partner willing to lead the next entry. The report says no studio has formally signed on, but two major developers are allegedly weighing the opportunity. DICE, the Swedish studio behind the previous two Battlefront games, is named as one possible fit. If the project doesn’t land there, the column suggests it could go to Bungie, the developer behind Halo, Destiny and Marathon.

The rumor arrives after a long stretch of silence for the series. Star Wars Battlefront II launched in 2017, and despite steady calls from fans for a follow-up over the years since, EA and DICE have never officially announced a third installment. The two existing games brought the sprawling, large-scale combat of DICE’s Battlefield series into the Star Wars universe, a formula that has kept the franchise in demand even without new releases.

For now, the report should be treated with caution. Neither DICE nor Bungie has been confirmed as the studio behind Battlefront III, and the column itself indicates that Lucasfilm has yet to lock in a developer. None of the companies involved have publicly commented on the claims.
