To mark the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, Iittala has unveiled a collaborative capsule collection centered around its iconic Origo tableware. Originally introduced in 1999 and designed by Alfredo Häberli, the Origo family is celebrated for its graphic clarity and bold striped language. This collaboration brings together two globally recognized cultural entities that originated in the late 1990s, offering a playful yet considered reinterpretation of everyday functional objects. As Janni Vepsäläinen, Creative Director of Iittala, notes, pairing the two icons creates a “quiet friction” that results in something surprising yet immediately familiar.
The collection reinterprets Origo’s instantly recognizable rhythm with a nostalgic yet contemporary twist. Stripes in Pikachu’s signature colors are paired with whimsical illustrations, creating pieces that feel rooted in daily use while rich in cultural reference. Rather than treating Pokémon as a novelty, the collaboration integrates the characters into functional objects designed for the table, kitchen and everyday rituals. Items include mugs, plates and bowls, each balancing Iittala’s design clarity with Pokémon’s iconic charm.
The Iittala x Pokémon collection is currently available to shop through Iittala’s website as well as its physical stores in Finland and Japan.
