Jennifer Lopez Sings Her Way Through First ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ Trailer
· Rolling StoneJennifer Lopez shows off her impressive vocals in the first look at her role in Kiss of the Spider Woman. The trailer for the film, released on Thursday, introduces Lopez as Aurora and gives a sneak peek at the dance-filled spectacle, out Oct. 10, co-starring Diego Luna and Tonatiuh.
The trailer opens with a montage of Aurora living in luxury — taking a bath and looking at clothing designs, trying on an elegant dress, and dancing onstage — as Lopez’s vocals play in the background. The trailer then flashes to a jail cell scene, introducing the characters of Luna and Tonatiuh, Valentin Arregui, and Luis Molina.
“What’s your favorite movie? I couldn’t live without movies… One I’ll never forget,” Molina asks Arregui, before pointing at a poster of Kiss of the Spider Woman and imagining himself with the star of the film.
Aurora then returns to the screen to sing “Where You Are” as scenes play of her dancing with Tonatiuh by his side, outside of the confines of his jail cell. “But you’re caught in the web of the Spider Woman / In her velvet cape,” sings Lopez, belting at the end of the trailer. (At one point, she shares a smooch with Luna’s character.) “You can run/You can scream/You can hide/But you cannot escape.”
The Kiss of the Spider Woman film adaptation of the Chita Rivera-starring production is directed and written by Dreamgirls and Chicago‘s Bill Condon. This is the second time the broadway production has been made into a film, and will arrive 40 years after the 1985 drama film starring William Hurt, Raúl Juliá, and Sonia Braga. Hurt won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in it.
